Racking my brain out as I have a Muncie M20 Wide Ratio and rebuilt it myself at least following instructions to a tee...With that being said...I only have reverse gear?..I can shift into all gears yet it will only go in reverse and no forward gears. Seems to be stuck in reverse as I cannot take my foot off the clutch nor push the car when the shifter is in neutral..I have manually put the linkages with the same outcome...Any help is greatly appreciated I am hoping to not have to take the tranny back out if its only a simple fix or repair that can be done in the car..
I can move the shift rods yes, detached etc.. I can move through gears but when I let out the clutch it goes in reverse whetherI am in 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th
With the shift rods off, I can move the levers no problem nothing binding, perhaps the shift linkage for reverse is not connected properly?..will the reverse gear over ride the forward gears as their is no grinding at all when shifting into the forward gears?
Perhaps when you put the transmission back together, you did not get the reverse gear connected properly with the reverse lever. Get on 5speeds.com and watch a video on how to do this. Just moving the reverse lever now might not give you an indication if the reverse gear itself is moving. There could also be an issue with the anti rattle springs on the reverse gear which could jam the gear in position. I have edited this because I forgot about these springs.
I think the reverse fork missed the reverse gear that it is supposed to move. So it's locked in reverse all the time period so when you have it in neutral it's in reverse. When you have it in reverse it's in reverse. When you have it in any forward gear it is locked up tight and won't move anywhere because it is in two gears.
When I rebuilt my M20 it was kind of difficult to get the reverse fork on the gear while putting on the tail shaft. It’s very likely that the fork is in the wrong position causing it to be locked in reverse.
