All kidding aside, he has a 2012 and I have a 2008... we both replaced the OEM shocks with Bilstein B6's... I noticed a GREAT improvement in ride control, firm but not harsh. I got mine from Amazon for $400 delivered to my door. Not much more than OEM replacements and WAY better than the base suspension OEM shocks.
I replaced all 4 on 79L82, 30,000 miles one totally shot, the others surprisingly average to poor (still would extend)… AC delco Amazon 120 bucks all 4.. made in MX OEM.
they are not that soft.. so I wouldn't go any harsher if not pushing.. I have pushed it some and seemed ok..

I think you're in the wrong discussion, the OP is talking about a 1980 car..............
OP, I would think the basic Gabriel or Monroe gas shock would fit your needs.
