AC-Delco gas shocks will give you decent stability and a smooth ride.

I agree with LOBSTAH 24.... he's my brother !!!!

All kidding aside, he has a 2012 and I have a 2008... we both replaced the OEM shocks with Bilstein B6's... I noticed a GREAT improvement in ride control, firm but not harsh. I got mine from Amazon for $400 delivered to my door. Not much more than OEM replacements and WAY better than the base suspension OEM shocks.

I replaced all 4 on 79L82, 30,000 miles one totally shot, the others surprisingly average to poor (still would extend)… AC delco Amazon 120 bucks all 4.. made in MX OEM.

they are not that soft.. so I wouldn't go any harsher if not pushing.. I have pushed it some and seemed ok..

look what else i found changing shocks!!

Are the AC Delco's 'double-acting' shocks? The OEM's as I've read were double-acting.

Most aftermarkets are single-acting (does most dampening on the rebound).

Therefore a double-acting shock would yield the ride closest to OEM.

I think you're in the wrong discussion, the OP is talking about a 1980 car..............

OP, I would think the basic Gabriel or Monroe gas shock would fit your needs.

Wops, my bad.... was redirected here somehow... HOWEVER.... If there is a Bilstein option for an ‘80 I’m sure it would be better than OEM !

I highly recommend KYB gas-a-just... I have put them into the 1982 CE, which is my 'luxury' C-3 and the ride and control is EXCELLENT.

The old date coded Delcos were still good at 18k!!!! So I kept them.
