Default Ignition Shielding Question

Is there any reason, other than looks, why I should keep my chrome ignition shielding in place? The car is not a show poodle (ie. repaint, diff engine), so I thinking of yanking it for better access to the dizzy, etc.

GM put that on for radio noise suppression.

Those shields are intended to capture ignition EMI and send it to ground, thereby reducing 'noise' in the radio output. If you have a 'clean' sounding radio without them, you don't need them.

But, they're C-H-R-O-M-E !! and that always looks good on an engine.

With mine off, I get ignition noise in AM, but not FM. That said, I've not listened to an AM station in who knows when. I like the look of the shielding, so mine's installed.

I have a modern media unit (AM/FM stereo without CD but with 2 USB's and Bluetooth) and do not have any shielding. No issues with noise. If it had been on the car when I bought it I likely would have left there as I am a chromaholic. No plans to added it back however.

I am in the process of putting all of the shielding back on...heat shields and ignition shields since the car came without any of those installed. Comes down to preference.
