Default Troy,-new design

Sorry to have to say this, but IMO, you need go back to the old setup fast as possible...hope you all didn't screw the pooch on that possiblility....
the site is MUCH slower now...(dial up)...and doesn't function near as smoothly as the old one....and the worst fault of the old site was that occational horizontal scroll bar because there is no width limit...and that was NOT corrected on this new site far as I can tell.....

Sorry man, just don't see all the angst over this new thing, not worth it....

5+ days, it's a flop....

Today is the first day that the forum is back up to speed for me. I like the new look myself, but I do have a cable modem so this may be why it seems like it is as fast to me.

It's running full speed for me at home (cable modem) and at work.

There are definitely a few more graphics, but once they are completely loaded your browser should cache them and not cause any more problems...

On my IE browser at work there is no sidebar for vendors but at home on my Compuserve Browser it takes up about 1/4 of the page. Looks like it is getting better everyday and it gave me a needed break. :)

Well tell you all what, I looked that this thread, and the last post never posted before I read all the responses, and my original post...browser still in search....I punched reply on my post....thing takes off to find this page i'm typing in....so that then took about 1.5 minits to find....so I get tired of waiting and punch the stop button....and then it appears...typical of the old page operation when it's slow....

now other sites are very much quite a bit faster....try ebay for instance....
they have programming talent/prices which far surpass anything here....
gotta be a better way....

Troy, I dunno what salesman got hold of you, but I be lookin him up with a 12 ga in my fist....

Runs better than the old site for me. Much better speed. Wish I could help you figure out how to keep the speed up on your computer.

I get a faster ping off the forums.corvetteforum.com server (42ms) than I do off my own website (www.usafa02.com) which is running off the computer I'm sitting at now. It is also a faster ping than pinging http://www.google.com or http://www.ebay.com.

The java - script rollout menu can make the site slowe, not because of the connection but because of processor seed. So on older machines it will be slower, no matter what kind of connection you have. If anyone is interested, I posted some stuff that may be usefull in Off Topic (in the the new site sucks thread) about the java - script menu and how to make it cheable so that it doesn't have to reload.

Yeah, I really hate it. It's really narrow. A quarter of my screen is white. It's annoying as hell.

Schmucker, you can change that! Go to user services 9click on the word, not the rollout) and select "expandable layout" then save, logout, log in and presto. Full width viewing.

Things are not working at all for me! Slow as molasses in January, and the layout is all screwed up... I too hope that Troy switches back to the old setup.

BTW, I'm running IE 5.1 on OS X on a Mac G4. Everything else loads really fast (as the old forum used to do).

Man, I miss the time when the websites were simple--only text, links, and one or two pictures here and there... I hate this new trend of fancy stuff, where one site will only work on one specific browser on one specific plataform! I VOTE FOR SIMPLICITY! :cry

I am a dial up user and the site is very slow. This is my favorite site on the whole net. I loved the old format for speed and simplicity. I have tried to get upon the site last night and the display was too big for my browser. I changed the text site just to surf around on the forum and changed it back for my other sites. If the bugs cant be worked out please go back to the old software. I will be patient for the mean time and hopefully these issues can be fixed.

Thanks,

The speed seems reasonable; no better, no worse. I have a high-speed telephone set-up. But I do not have access to my pics in "Home Pages." I find it difficult to be informative without pics ;) .

Adam,
Glad it is working for you, but you must not have any pictures in in the home pages that you need to get to.

I need them and can not get them.

Is there anybody out there that can access theirs in the home pages.

Sorry, Troy you can bump my percentage. My patience are gone.

We sound like kids on a road trip. . . "ARE WE THERE YET!?!"
I bet that Troy & Crew want the bugs worked out far more than any single user. I'm sure that they have been working their butts off trying to iron out the kinks.
I'm a dial-up user, so I already know all about "SLOW"! I also know that the forum will eventually get back to normal. I've been a member of this forum for a long time. It has cost me a FORTUNE in upgrages :D but you can't complain about the price of admission to the forum. It's a great deal.
