Please help identify

Is this a filter for radio? Do I still need it? HEI and aftermarket stereo

assuming you have a 1975 Corvette the factory distributor was HEI and cannt tell from the picture what circuit that is but they were typically used for radio noise suppression.

actually it’s on a 72 were working on. So I should be able to leave it out of the harness installation . Sorry for not stating year

If it is the old capacitor you are referring to, that is for radio 'noise suppression". It is wired to the brake light switch so that it would eliminate the electrical "pop" made when the brake switch is activated. You don't need it, unless you just want to have it for "original" appearance.
