I have this carb that I was going to sell so I looked up the numbers and looked on e bay. Carb list is 4557 part # 3967477 dated July 5 69, internet lists this for LS-6 454 Chevelle and Camaro. However e bay lists this carb also for Corvette. Can anyone tell me if this is correct?
Thanks Chuck

I believe the 4557 was used on 1970 LS6 Camaro and Chevelle. In 1970, the Vette big block engine options were the LS5 (454 390hp with Q-Jet) and the LS7 (454 465hp with 800 cfm Holley - available over-the-counter). I believe the 4557 is a 780 cfm that was not used on Vette in 1970.
If in good condition, that carb should still have some decent value. The Camaro and Chevelle of that vintage are still valuable and 'original' components still add value.
Well; They did make.like 4500 Chevelles with the LS6. But no Camaros they never released that option. And that is a very early 70 model carb. I, pretty sure the Chevelle guys know exactly when the LS6 was released, not me, but I don't think it was that early in the year, they made L78s at first 396-375, then switched over to the LS6 on a certain date , somewhere around Oct IIRC. .
So I don't think it is an LS6 carb. I think it came on a Hi Perf 396, and they were fairly common, at least 5-10,000 or so.
The Vette and Camaro 70 LS6 never got released. The Camaro never got it. The Vette got 188 of them in 71 and it had a 4803 Holley with std trans.
I checked my Holley data and that code is for a 396 std trans Camaro or Chevelle.
With that early of a Jul 69 date it might be for a late 69 car. I'm not sure exactly when the cutover was that year, but isn't it usually august?

You are correct that this option was not OFFERED to the general public. But, some may have been provided via COPO order. If so, there would be few made, which would make a "correct" carb for such a vehicle VERY valuable.
Why waste time with the phantom "maybes".
There were over 19,000 L78 396 engines produced in 1969, for Chevelles, El Caminos and Camaros.
A July 7, 1969 date code points to a 1969 model year car.
The 69 L78 396 was the most common SHP BBC ever made.
Probably realistically made 425 HP not 375.
That is what a 4557 Holley is listed for.
The carb is worth something, being date correct.
The OP would need to check those sites, not this one.
I'd hazard a guess of around $500 maybe more.
