Default Help

I have a 1975 Corvette Stingray there is something connected to the throttle on the inside of the car by your foot so when you kick it down it will seem to hit and and move it it's got wires connected to it. Not for sure what it is would appreciate any feedback. And thank you

Probably the Cowl Induction Hood flapper switch. It only operates at WOT.

73-75's have a functioning cowl induction hood, that is operated by a plastic slide switch with two terminals. The switch is mounted so that the accelerator pedal rod contacts it when the pedal is pressed.

Dam, learn something new everyday, I don't remember my 75 having the cowl induction flapper, if it did it did not work, one owner, drove it for 1 year before modding the car. My 70 SS did have the cowl induction.
On my TB400 the switch to kick down to passing gear is way up under the dash.
Anybody have a picture of a stock 75 hood with the flapper opened?
Thanks

I have a couple 73-75 hoods at work, if I get a chance tomorrow I'll get a couple pictures of the system. By the way, the cowl induction on 70-72 SS Chevelles, used the same accelerator rod mounted switch, as the 73-75 Corvettes used.

As Ken said it was standard on all.
Do a quick search on this forum, there is a lot of great info out there on the system.

Here are a few pictures from my 73 for the cowl induction. I had to put a big *** rubber hose piece on the shaft so the switch would make at WOT. It ain’t no fun getting under the dash, some have removed the drivers seat.

Here’s the switch

I did the same thing, it was coming up short in making contact so had to enlarge the shaft to get proper contact.

The Cowl Induction flapper door in the hood is designed to be closed at any throttle position except WOT. So basically, under normal driving, the system is closed all the time. No fresh air being drawn in from the cowl to the sealed air cleaner and into the carburetor.

So unless you drive around town with the pedal on the floor all the time you are not seeing any benefit from this Cowl Induction design.

Just remove the Flapper door OR wire the switch to be active whenever the ignition is on thereby keeping the door open. It's easier to remove the flapper door.
