Just looking at some crate engines that are 4-bolts, and wondering if I they will work as a replacement for my L48, which I hear is a 2-bolt. Would this be a problem?

Thanks!
No. BASICALLY, all Small Block Chevy engines from 1955 to 1986? are externally the same (before anyone jumps in, yeah I know, '55s didn't have oil filter bosses, 400s have siamesed cylinder walls, yada yada).
For your requirements, whether an engine has 2-bolt or 4-bolt main bearing caps will not cause problems. The caps are within the oil pan.
Hey Capt. I sent you an E-mail about Jerry ....He is a service manager at All Star Jeep Chrysler.....He said he woulkd be glad to speak with you about it and quote you a price up front
Brand New GM Goodwrench LONG block 350ci with 3yr/50,000m Goodwrench warranty ... 4-bolt main, about 250hp ... all for under $1600.
Jackson,
I too thought that was a good bang-for-the buck engine but I believe there are a few forum members here that own them and they've been less than pleased.

Why are they displeased?... if it's cuz it won't run with a zz4 ...then get a zz4. BTW, this motor specs out virtually same as a factory L48 ... even the small cam. If they're displeased with serviceablity .... there's that long goodwrench warranty that I've not seen duplicated. If I wanted a replacement for L48 (not an upgrade) I wouldn't hesitate to go with this one.
I agree for the most part but supposedly it's a great block filled with not-so-great parts. They are supposedly assembled in Mexico if that means anything. Leaks are a problem.
It's a good warranty but only if it can be backed up. If there was ever a failure with it (or any engine) it would be up to the owner to prove that there was a defect in material or workmanship. The manufacturer could easily claim that the engine was abused, raced, neglected or not properly serviced by the owner and in turn, not honor a warranty claim. It's the owner's fight.
I would consider this engine if I ever needed a replacement but I would like to hear from more people who've actually owned it.
I'd also like to hear from others that've got one. Little doubt in my mind that nearly all domestic cars/trucks/motors have some roots of production in Mexico. Any company's warranty could be denied for any reason ... regardless if grounded in fact or not. A loose rod bolt is a loose rod bolt ... whether overlooked in US or Mexico or Canada or Europe. BTW, I'm neither hispanic nor a proponent of offshore (or sob) stuff ... it's just that (sadly) Mexican production is a fact of life.
Yeah I found a new long block from a Chevy dealer up the road for $1550; sounds like it is the same thing with the 3yr/50,000 mi warranty. It's either get that new block, or buy a rebuilt one (maybe from http://www.rebuiltcarengines.com). The rebuild has a warranty, but there is one that is already built out to 275hp for the same money.
Do yourself a favor & at least go with a 4-bolt main block if you are going the route of ripping out this motor and replace it. And I think you will be sorely disappointed just going to 275HP. Save up a few more bucks and go with 300 to 350HP. That's nothing radical at all and a better resale value in the future.
Just my 2 cents from an owner of a '74 L-48(195HP) that sounds great, but couldn't outrun a midget on stilts. :)
