Stahl/ACP headers and sidepipes are a good option if you want some power with your sound. I went with the short length sidepipes and STS spiral baffles on a 350HO crate engine with LT4 Hot Cam. Contemplating cutting the baffles in half because I think they're a bit too quiet.

80s with sidepipes are favorite. I have Hookers on mine, purchased from Craigslist. If I were buying a new set, I'd go with Dougs, black, with STS baffles, since I hate chrome.
I won't run without shields again. Without inserts, however, you'll need earplugs.

I am running Stahl/ACP headers and side pipes. I have the race length on it right now and but have a set of full length side pipes for it also. It is not too loud.
Hooker sidepipes with STS baffles capped. 496 big block dynoed at 413rwhp. Sound is not bad all and can enjoy the car with top done. Tuner told me that I am probably leaving 50+ hp on table above 5500 rpm. The wife and I like the balance of noise and power.
I am new to this forum, just bought a 1980 Corvette. I am looking to put side pipes on it. I have seen a lot of posts on the subject but I wanted to get some updated info. I am looking at Dougs, Hookers, Patriot and OBX. looking to more understand the inserts/baffles. I dont want it to loud but I realize side pipes have some noise. So my question is what are you guys and gals using?
I got my Doug's sidepipe headers and mufflers straight from dougs who had a 20% off sale. Then got the pipes through summit when they had a sale. Over all I spent maybe 700-ish.
They're black but I had to get them ceramic coated black also. The black coating that comes from Doug's aint good.
I have Hooker stainless side pipes on my '76 and have no issues with them. I did have the ceramic ones and they started to spot rust within a few weeks. The inserts I have are 2.5 sweet thunder and they are loud.

Yeah, my Hooker ceramics are no longer as shiny as they once were. Got a little rust at the collector join as well. Still, pipes themselves are from 2003 (had them with the small block) and the headers are from 2011. So, not bad. The finish kind of matches my wheels (which date back to 2001).
