I have a 69 with standard column. I have the opposite problem as most. My ignition key pulls out with the key in any position. The switch is working correctly as it hits all 5 positions. Is my problem in the cylinder/tumbler? Couldn’t find anything in Jim Shea’s terrific papers on this one. Thanks for the help!
The ignition cylinder should have a tang on the end of it that holds it into the housing. This tang has to be pushed to remove it when all is well with the car. So, pull you cylinder out and see if the retaining tang is holding. You may have a bad cylinder or you may have a bad housing but looking at the cylinder will tell you.
If you look at the cylinder below you'll see the black tang just barely showing. Original cylinders had I believe a white one though.
