Default What do I have ?

Kept two blocks in my garage since around 1973 picked them up from a machine shop I worked in. Both blocks have the 2482 caps block number 1 has a big hole in the back for the inside the valley breather, up front in the timing cover across from the cam 10, 20 down at the bottom G30 on the left front there is a strait iron flat where the freeze plug normally is, on the back it has 3970010, inside the bell housing 010, 020 with an H33 down at the bottom. The other block has the normal type distributor looking tube and no big hole for a breather everything else the same except the number on back a big 12 then 3932386. Have I won any prize.

Huum engine labs casting number site say's 3932386 in 4 bolt form was used in 1969 Z/28, 302 or 1969 350 4 bolt main, and there was a two bolt 1969 using 3932386
the other block 3970010 only shows to be used in 1969 Z/28, 302. Makes some sense something chevy raced would have the 2482 nodular capps.

386 block was used in early 1969. The 010 block was used in late 69 and on for about a decade. These blocks were used in everything from station wagons to Chevelles, to Camaros to Corvettes. The 386 is much less common because it was not used as long as the 010. 4" bores on all of them.

The hole in the back describes a draft tube hole which was the precursor to a PVC system.

Seems strange for it to be a draft tube. I believe these blocks are later than any draft tube application.

Big hole in the back is for the oil separator for the crankcase vent, used up through 1967.

It looks like this inside the lifter galley:

It looks like this externally:

I've only seen them on the 327 blocks.

lars the 3932386 block has a big hole for that in the back valley area wall but the weird thing to me, I will call it the vertical tube that completely normally surounds the distributor there is nothing there at all but a hole down at the bottom of the valley for the distributor to pass through to the cam gear. I don't know anything about casting numbers folks on this channel talk about just a hot rodder type no restorer. I kept 3 SBC 4 bolt blocks and a 4 bolt 454 block around since the early 70s. Neighbor and friend of mine few years back kept drooling all over my BBC block and I sold it to him. Even though I got plenty for it and two steel chevy 427 cranks have been sorry I sold it.

Don't be sorry you sold it. I had blocks sitting in the garage for many years and finally sold them off. Now I have lots of room to move around without tripping over things. If you'd have kept the block, it would more than likely been there for your kids to get rid of someday when they clean things out. No Regrets.

Factory bbc block will handle worlds more power dependable compared to factory sbc blocks. That's my reason I'm sorry I sold it. I've been into motorcycles and still that way for a lot of years real reason none of the blocks got used. Back in 70s all my money went to corvettes and camaro's. But I do have a want for another vette and I don't care for the looks of the modern vettes, for me the vette died after the C3s in the styling department.
