Default Blower running?

With all the switches in off position, the blower runs on my '81 when the car is running.
Anyone have this happen, or know what might be going on?

It is supposed to. The fan is always running, regardless of the climate control settings (fan speed/vent selector), if the key is in the On position (and I believe Accessory too).

I couldn't tell you why Chevy made that choice though. To make sure there was some fresh air in the cabin??

The fan on '81;s run on a very low speed for air circulation. If it bothers you, you can disconnect the low speed wire at the relay. That's what I did with mine. It keeps it a lot cooler when the A/C is not on.

You saved me asking the same question - my '80 is the same way.

The "fresh air" concept is a bit humorous given the various air leaks all around, at least with mine.

Remove the low speed blower terminal out of the housing......you will just have mid and high. If memory serves me corrrectly, it is the brown wire......but get a schematic

Jebby.

I just checked. It's the dark brown wire at the resistor assy. which is just below the relay. And you'll still have 3 fan speeds with this disconnected.

Why do you want to disable a safety feature? GM made their blower motors run at a low speed at all times in order to provide a slight positive cabin pressure due to a carbon monoxide problem on GM cars. By running the fan on low, you will not get carbon monoxide poisoning and die. GM got sued because this did, in fact, happen. Why don't you cut those pesky seat belts out of the car while you're at it..?
