Default Engine mods

Hello, does anyone know any quick and cheap engine mods that increase power or fuel efficiency while still looking stock?

Headers and a free flowing exhaust and setting up your distributor properly.

Turbo style mufflers with low restriction and having your distributor recurved. The best way to make a car accelerate faster is swapping out high rear axle gears for lower ones. . If you have a 308 gear and go to a 370 you will feel a big difference, you will also rev close to 3,000 rpm when you are doing 60 mph.

71 already has a rather free-flowing true-dual OE exhaust system.

Suggest you email CF member Lars Grimsrud v8fastcars@msn.com

Tell Lars what you have and request his white papers on setting/curving your dist & tuning your carb & timing

Cams and headers are cheap to me around $250 each without the ceramic coating on the headers which will double the price but is worth. And you need to follow the coating break in directions. The best thing you can do is heads

Have the distributor recurved at a speed shop, then set the timing for max advance. T

Tune up the carburetor and adjust it for best operation and performance. Also re-curve the mechanical advance mechanism in your distributor for best performance.

Chances are you will obtain a 30+ HP improvement from what you presently have (stock GM tuning). GM intentionally recommended tune-up settings that de-tuned the engine well below its capability. Many folks find that their carb's secondaries are NEVER opening at all (from full throttle action on the ACCELERATOR PEDAL...not the same as WOT action at the carb linkage).
