1970 LS5 Octane Requirments
Looking at a stock 1970 LS5 and wanting some feedback on your experiences with pump gas. Would one expect problems running today's pump gas? Need and additives?

Just remember octane really has nothing to do with it, as long as you meet the minium rating for your compression. Octane is very misunderstood. Higher octane does NOT give your engine more power. Lead in the gas is a different matter. The older engines need lead in the gas for the valve train. If yours has not been changed to the new style, you should use a lead additive. Octane is about your compression. Higher octane fuel actually has less power. My little 327 has 11:1 compression ratio. I do use higher octane,,, but I drive at 5000 ft, so that lowers the octane requirment.
