I have got about 25 years on my Crane HI-6 and Chrysler magnetic trigger. I will try to keep my cell phone charged up and fresh sneakers just in case. 
The HEI only failed once in that time and it was due to an aftermarket "upgrade" kit. Pulled all that "upgrade" out and never missed a beat since.

Added bonus! My tach has been funky for about 4 years, I put in a Willcox module in the tach and it still didn't work. Put the MSD in and the darn thing is perfect! I emailed Willcox and asked if that made sense and they said the signal from the old coil was probably bad.

Now (instead of triggering tach from a coil post) you're triggering tach from 6 box's tach-out signal, right ?
Are you still using same old coil to fire plugs ? Or a diff/new coil ?

You replaced the entire system, and now it functions.
