Default rear diff cover removal

Gents, is it possible to side the diff cover and support brace without taking the whole rear end out?

i need to put a new gasket in but this thing will not budge. I have removed the 2 bolts that hold the support brace in place and all diff bolts but it is not dropping down. any tips/advice? thanks in advance!

Yes it is but not recommended since the cover support the whole diff along with the front snubber. It can be done, is shown that way in the 40 year old manuals but you are miles ahead of the game pulling the whole diff out to service it. Plus there is 2 qts of dirty, smelly gear oil in there and even sucking it out will leave enough to be a mess.

Ok, so I got it off then supported the main part of diff with the jack, oil was not too bad and there was not too much crud in there either. managed to find a clip on you tube that showed me how to release the main support , got it out without any spills & major dramas! Parts all cleaned and painted and will be ready to refit as soon as the gasket arrives.
