Default What does the switch on a ‘73 gas pedal do?

Good afternoon all, I am curious as to what this switch is supposed to do. I am swapping out the original gas pedal for the one that came with my LS3 but I am wondering if I need to do anything with the wiring for the switch on the pedal. I cannot find it referenced on the electrical diagrams I have.

Thanks,

Scott

I believe it is the switch for the cowl induction flapper. Supposed to open under wide open throttle.

to me it looks like an automatic transmission kick down switch.

Switch to open cold air induction of hood. Same thru 1975. I removed the flap to get 100% cold air all the time a long time ago.

Default Kick down switch

Looks like the auto kick down to me as well. I’m not an expert on these cars. I mostly have Pontiacs, but that’s what they are on them.

It is probably the same switch they used for the automatic kick downs but this car was originally a four-speed so it seems it was used to open up the door on the hood I n my case.

Default Kick down switch

I believe you are correct. I think it does both functions, provides electrical charge for cowl-induction flap and the transmission kick down switch. Did I mention I’m a Pontiac guy trying to get back into Vettes? My 69 Judge has a manual operated **** on the dash you pull to get Ram Air. Always learning something new. My statement is just a hunch as I have not seen anything in writing stating what I said to be true.
thanks!

I think it was also used to activate the flux capacitor at approx. 88mph. Sorry, couldn't resist. This quarantine thing is really getting to me. Stay safe everyone.

It's the kickdown switch for a TH400 transmission, which does not use a kickdown cable like the TH350. It also doubled as the cowl induction flap trigger, as others have noted above.

Lars,
Good to see you still lurking here. I was in the US for the Caravan last year, but we steered clear of Denver. Would have loved to get up there and catch up with you. Keep safe and stay home, everyone. Since the Australian government closed our borders (easy because we're an island) the number of cases of COVID 19 has been dropping every day. We have the fourth lowest infection rate in the world, after Israel, Germany and South Korea.

Regards from Down Under

That switch did "double duty" if the car had automatic trans.... kickdown and induction door operation
