Default Changing Trans Mount

Today's simple (yeah right, as if anything is simple) project is changing the trans mount. The plan is to loosen the mount to crossmember bolts. Jack the trans up just enough to remove the two mount to trans bolts and slide the old mount out and the new mount in. Question is: is the trans pan strong enough to hold the weight without denting or collapsing? See pic.

jack up the tail shaft of the transmission, I would not jack up the pan.

or a piece of plywood about the size and shape of the pan, so the load is on the sides, not the middle. but tail housing is best.

Tailshaft?? How? The crossmember is blocking the tailshaft.

2 X 4 the width of the pan, place it where it won't interfere with the next step of unbolting the trans itself. I used an old bottleneck jack and it made it easy when time to put it all back together, since the trans will probably shift to one side or the other a little bit. Just don't go too high because it's still connected to the engine. Good luck.

Tailshaft is not an option for a lift point. The board you have is the right idea. Like others said, just need a piece of plywood or OSB to distribute the weight evenly onto the pan, then the board under that. The pans strongest areas are the four corners.
You are lifting about a third of the combined weight. Use caution.

Solid wood piece as large at the bottom surface of the sump pan. No problem.

Then put the jack against yoke or driveshaft.
