Default Buying Spark Plug Wire -- ohms/ft?

  1. All else being equal, the better spark plug wire choice would be the one with the lower ohm/foot spec, right?
  2. What kind of reputation does Taylor have? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tay-74003
My limiting requirements are that I need a set of decent wires which will likely get replaced with a braided BB wire set down the road ($$ vs $$$). The distributor end needs a 90° boot to fit under the radio shielding cover - the plug end isn't as important but I think 135° is preferable. Black wire color.

Pre-thanks for the feedback.

Taylor is good stuff. Don't obsess over resistence. At that voltage it means very little. Insulation quality is the goal.

Is a 350 ohm/ft set worth $18 more over a 500 ohm/ft set ($39 vs. $57) -- or is it so inconsequential that $39 set is fine?

Forget about ohms/ft. It is in no way any indication of quality or performance. It is simply marketing BS.

I personally like MSD 8.8mm wires. I get them in cut-to-fit so I can route them perfectly to my liking. They also sell wire as bulk as well as terminals and boots so I can make a replacement wire if I need to. I've never had the MSD wire arc to my headers which is more than I can say for other brands (mallory, accel). I tried Taylor. Not bad but the MSD are better made: terminals are double crimped. Once to the sleeve, and a second crimp on the conductor. Taylor just folds the conductor back onto the sleeve and single crimps.

Thanks for the ohms clarification.
As to the millimeter sizing, do you have the stock wire routing grommets? I'm concerned the 8.8mm won't fit the hard plastic holders. I believe back in the day 7mm was the standard size and am wondering if 8mm is pushing it. When you make your own lengths, are you double-crimping? What kind of crimping tool is needed?

I'm overthinking this! It's just a temporary set for a couple years.

I've had my Taylor 8mm spiro pro wires for over 20 years. Still look like new and ohms/ft hasn't changed since new. A great plug wire imo.

What ignition are you running?

I have wire looms from GM performance but the stock 454 looms did fit the 8.8mm with a little persuasion. Yes, I double crimp using the MSD crimping pliers which I highly recommend. Super nice quality but a bit expensive. PN35051. Summit makes a copy that I haven't tried but looks like it should work that is 1/3 the price. PN SUM-900399.

Nothing fancy - stock points & condenser.

Thanks for that recommendation. I added it to my "wishlist" to more easily find it in the future. I have another car with the original braided wire covers - I threaded through new wires a few decades ago and I remember having a heck of a time crimping them well. I'll likely use this on that car first.

Then you could even use solid core wire if electronic RFI or EMI was not a concern, as in no radio, did not bother you. That is why the points are shielded. Even my 81 had a shield I tossed. Only electronic ignition HAS to have some resistance, or if you like your tunes.
Go with 7mm stock wire and it will fit your holders. Packard has sold thousands of miles of it.
I should set up my machine with a scope and 8 different wires. I doubt it would see it.

Thanks. I'll look into the Packards. (A recommended source for them?) I suppose they were the stock wire 50 years ago. I do listen to the radio at times but certainly not mandatory AND I guess the braiding and other shielding will help with the interference.
