This is a

Sting ray.
The engine is supposedly a 72 truck engine.
He just wants a reliable toy, and that is the mission.
A coolant recovery system is an improvement.

I am fairly certain his high speed miss is from the oil soaked carbon brush that is melting into goo.
At least the curve was dead on. 17* at idle, and linear to 36* at 2800 rpm.
But, for street use, a vacuum advance will be added.
I also found all the header bolts loose, so there is the ticking on pass side.

Lets just say he is not good with cars.
He wants me to look at a 68 Mustang next. I haven't touched one since 1973.

$459 seems to be the price from all the venders.
I ordered a new fuel sender, some tubing, inline filter and fittings to correct the fuel hazards encountered.
Adding vacuum advance for street, I still like the DUI unit, although I have had one come back with trashed tach gears.
He doesn't want a $950 MSD system, so that leaves HEI, or a tach drive with a pertronix/lectric limited trigger. Points are out.
With a DUI HEI, I would also have to delete, change the wiper motor to a later style for clearance.
You’re not going to enjoy the reservoir. For 73 it’s a 1 year only part with a different back profile. You either need to stack washers behind it so you can attach the bolts, or I can teach you the proprietary Mike method. You think zip tie wire looms are primitive

My favorite, the fuel system.
The filter sock has been cut off. The tank line is crazy.
There is an inline filter before the pump.
The pump is an old Holley? HP unit.
The steel line between the pump and carb can rub on the belt.(it flops around).
The pump return is disconnected.
I ordered a new sending unit, stock fuel pump, and will hard pipe the rest with an Earls inline filter.
Did I mention the "S" hose is pinched?
Yes. Just stock hose bent over.
Bubba DID do the fuel system.

If a clutch fan cools it when you get it together why waste the money on electric fans. You would likely have to upgrade the wiring and alternator.

It has a flex fan The shroud and seals are trash.
There is no fan clutch.
If you add up all the parts it's a wash.
The electric fans improve A/C at idle,
so he decided that route.

Out with the old, in with new Spectra unit. Both read 90 ohms. I used a dab of Gaskacinch to hold the oring in place.
