69 new dash harness, courtesy light door switches and headlight switch. Bulbs test good. Ok, rear dome light works as it should, both off the door switches, and by turning headlight switch all the way counter clockwise when the doors are closed. Neither front courtesy lamp lights up at all. Voltage present at all orange wires, including both courtesy lamp bulb sockets, lighter, clock and, again, rear dome lamp works as it should. Any ideas why the courtesy lamps won’t light up. Again, bulbs test fine. Probably missing something stupid but I am out of ideas. This is my first electrical test after buttoning up wiring. Doesn’t matter I am sure, but don’t have ignition switch hooked up at column yet, only turn signal harmonica connector. Thanks for the help.

I assume if the ground was bad at either the headlight switch or the door switches, the rear dome light wouldn’t work correctly. Am I wrong to assume that. It is all the same white wire, correct?

Well looks like it was something obvious. Even though my service manual says courtesy lights take #90 bulbs, a close look at the socket only shows 1 terminal and a 90 bulb has 2. Just shoved it in and didn’t notice. Found 631 single pole in my junk and it works. Some more digging says some that 631 is the right bulb. Oh well! Thanks for your help guys. Oh and yes I do have that little strap installed Richard. Your headlights are going in tomorrow!

The door switches connect the ground when the door opens. The headlight switch connects the ground when you rotate it to the stop. When you install the headlight switch the locking nut grounds it to a metal strap and that tab gets bolted to the speedometer. Make sure that and the speedometer ground is connected.
