Last March I broke down and bought a new digital timming light. I used it and couldn’t full understand
how it worked. Just yesterday I desided I would have another go at it. The center button with the question mark
seemes to start the light working. And the rpmS just blink no rpms. It says the wire is bad but there is spark on both ends
and the plug seems like it is firing.so do you think the light is bad? Here’s the plug
It would help if you put the model number of the gun your using
A quick look shows me that the question mark might just be a flashlight function which is sort of what your saying there
M
Seems like you just make sure it's on 4 cycle
If it's not flashing, try it on a different wire (#3) and/or flip the clip on pickup over (some are directional with a big arrow on them pointing the right way)
M
That’s what the directions said what do you mean 3#. It said if you have copper wire then use a
different wire . I don’t think I can just by one wire. I have those dated wires with the metal
braiding ,covering in them . Maybe I will have to look for one. Thanks for your time. I hope
the light is not bad it’s 14 months old with a 12 warranty.
I was just meaning to put it on the number 3 sparkplug wire and check that but since you say you have the braided sleeve wires that's probably the issue, the inductive pickup probably doesn't like that grounded sleeve and it's not firing the strobe
I believe there is a spot at both ends that doesn't have the sleeve, try your clamp on there, even it it's up at the distributor and I think it'll work for you or else you'll have to swap out the #1 wire temporarily to set the timing

You can't clip an inductive pickup over metal braid shielded plug wires. You have to put the pickup over the portion of the plug wire right at the distributor cap where there is no braided shield on the wire, or right down by the spark plug wire boot.
I had it on both ends and turned it over a couple of times. It doesn’t start flashing
until you push the light button, then it starts to flash. The upper screen only flashes.
thanks for your reply. I have an endoscope for work ,I slid it down behind the power
steering pump and the whole indicator was right in front of me. No the light won’t work .
guess I will call the company on Tuesday and see what they say.
Sorry ,yes I turned the clip over a couple of times . The car starts fine it just has a slight
miss I am trying to track down . I will try again maybe the clip was touching part of
the brading on the wires. Thanks again
