Yes pricey but i agree probably worth it and i plan to buy it once have a better idea of my problem. Basically so far ive learned i have installed nothing but Chinese junk in this car (non-Delco AND Delco alike) from local auto parts or Ecklers. i dont believe i have gotten over 25-30 miles with any of the coils installed so far. i get to my destination and later try to leave and No Start scenario. I'll try the SMP blue streak and see how that holds up, at least theyre cheaper but appear to be American made (I hope) per the website. If i can get multiple trips out of it i expect the next move to be Daves coil. Thanks for your help everyone. Out of town for a week but stay tuned.........
Whatever coil you get weather is a genuine GM t.i. coil, repro chicom t.i. coil, or even one advertised as a t.i. coil. you must measure the primary resistance. It needs to be 0,41-0,51 ohms. Anything else will puke the module. I know, I went through 3 modules a few years back. Finding an ohm meter to read to low is not hard- I use a $15 1940's Simpson I got on ebay. One thing I have not seen mentioned: verify the module ground to the rad support is clean, tight, and has a star washer under the terminal
i will do the ohm test. i had not done so with the first coil or two.....just trusted the auto store. what exactly would be the symptoms or result of a bad/damaged amplifier/module? Maybe im already there........

In my case- no spark. With the wrong coils installed, the engine would run for a second then would crank over with no spark. Changed to another coil and a another new module, same scenario. Another new module and a GM t.i. coil and all is well for the last few years. That said, the next time, I am going with a run of the mill GM 4 pin HEI module. The HEI module will work with any coil.
well i received the SMP blue streak from rockauto.........the one that crossed to a TI coil from Delco #, per the other post. Dave Fiedlers ohm test confirmed it was a standard points coil. Not gonna bother with it, sending back and i bit the bullet on Daves coil......sending him a check. Im hoping to have the same luck you've had. He seemed confident it was not the amplifier based on my history, just everyones junky coils for sale.
