C3 Rag Joint Coupling Re-Connection
This is my first post and I greatly appreciate any help or tips you have to offer!
I'm working on my 1977 C3 corvette, I had to slightly lower the steering column a bit to remove my dash instrument cluster and now that I have the interior re-dyed dash and trim re-installed, new carpet and leather interior re-installed, new gauge console bezels, new bulbs etc.,,. I'm running into an issue re-joining the rag-joint to the power steering box, The coupling is almost halfway on the power steering box shaft but it's not easily budging. I didn't remove the rag-joint coupler completely from the steering box to begin with, I just used a pickle-fork and pushed it up enough to get the interior driver dashpad instrument cluster out from behind the interior steering column collar.
What's the best way to re-marry these? I've tried lube and smacking it further down the PS Shaft with a small hammer but it's not coming easy. Any tips or tricks? I this a two person job? Should I re-install steering wheel and have someone inside applying constant pressure while I smack it with a hammer?
