Idle Control Solenoid (CEC)
My 1971 ls5 CEC solenoid "clicks" whenever the ignition switch is turned on and continues clicking (center shaft moves towards carb linkage) for duration as long as it is in the on position. Turning switch off silences the solenoid and shaft quits moving. What do I check/need to adjust/replace to correct? Any suggestions/questions appreciated. I need help!

If memory service me correctly the solenoid is energized for approximately for the first 15 sec when the ignition switch is turned on. For allowing vacuum to the distributor advance. Then after that it de-energizes and only will energize if your are a manual trans when in 3rd or 4th gear or an overheat is sensed by the temp switch in the right head. Do not remember for an automatic. My guess is a bad relay on your firewall.

Turning on the A/C does not engage the CEC. The A/C would only cause it to engage when the temperature switch in the right side head sees overheating due to possible low air flow over the radiator.
