Been. a member with Hagarity since I bought the vette 8-10 years ago. Broke down for the first time today. Called them, tow in 90 minutes they will text. no texts. After 90 minutes called back, will send a second tow, be there in 60 minutes they will text an eta. No texts, called back after waiting after the said eta. Third try, got a tow truck that actually arrived. Put the vette on the flatbed with precision and drove us the 40 miles home. Is this normal? Hagerty blames it on the covid. I think they are are just covering themselves from lazy contract tow trucks. anybody else been treated this way. should I dump hagertys and look for a different company? Thanks for your learned input.
your insurance is mainly to cover accident damage and the value of your car. that 15 to 300k is more important than a couple hours on a hot day. or 2-300 buck tow. dump your insurance if they won't pay a claim or tell you your 69 is a 3000 dollar car after all. not cuz somebody effed up on a tow.
Since you asked. My brother ran into a similar situation waiting for flatbed for his Chevelle.
"Yes Hagerty and it was a very long wait. A couple of hours sitting on the side of the highway. Fortunately it was a nice day and not raining, and a guard rail to sit on, but still...
Hagerty gave me no info or updates during the long wait. No ETA. Had I known why it was taking so long, I would have understood and wouldn’t have sat there doing a slow burn. In my opinion, it’s how they handle those delay situations and the customer service that distinguishes one company from another."
He did call a tow company while waiting and the operator said he doesnt do business with Collector Car companies because they are slow pays. So you just wait in line for the company to make arrangements.
I would complain to Hagerty about how you were treated.
The one time I used my Hagerty road aid was great. Flatbed arrived within an hour and was very careful loading and unloading. Maybe it varies with the state you live in and/or the quality of the tow company. Road service in general seems to be hit or miss no matter who the insurance company.
I use AAA RV Premier and always get service within an hour. I get up to 200 miles free towing.
Had them for 25 yrs...hagerty isnt a bad company but I could see that being irritating. Maybe a bum contract who knows.
AAA shows up pretty quick. No problems til the last 2 tows its going to cost me close to 2k to fix the damage.
Some C-3 Content.
Rented a RYDER 26' box truck...69-C3 on the trailer hitch.
Drove 90% across country...60 miles from the destination the engine computer took a crap. (heat).
Called 1-800-Go -Ryder and told them. They had guaranteed, because they gave me the wrong truck, and there are no spare tires available for truck or trailer, that "They'd Come and tow or fix the tire, it in one hour".
Same story as your's.....hours and hours and hours...no show. Four hours later, I had fixed the ECM in the truck and arrived at the destination.
If you see a Ryder tow truck plying I-17....tell them #@$%^!!!!
I am a member of the Good Sam RV Club and they will tow any car, motorcycle or RV that you own. It is a good deal when you have kids and their cars along with my fleet. From others experiences they seem to be pretty good at getting there when you need them for a gallon of gas or a tire change even. They have saved my bacon a couple times so I will keep my membership until I stop driving.
During a Flash flood here in Northern Virginia my car stalled in a large body of water (on a road "during" construction) and the water was rising quickly. I was two blocks from AAA headquarters (literally) and they wanted me to wait 4 hours for a tow.
Fortunately there was a enterprising young man who had a winch on his heavy duty pickup that was willing to pull your car out for whatever money you had in your wallet. With the water inches below the windows I opted to pay to be pulled out of the growing puddle before the water filled the Car. Thank goodness my door seals were good as the car did not have any water inside with the water up to the window on the outside of my door.
I dropped AAA the next day, twice they failed me and I was not going to give them another chance.

Their their headquarters used to be off of gallows road in what used to be called merryfield if it's still in the same place.those clowns left me stranded a couple of times but I'm sorry to say I'm back being a member with them again although I have hagerty insurance on my Corvette so I use them if I have an issue with that car..
Have Hagerty. Wrecked on rural road w/ animal darted into road. C3 vert got screwed but I was fortunate & critter skated. I call local wrecker service I knew of. They came within half-hour and carefully pulled it out of deep, dry ditch & onto rollback. Dropped at my nearby farm-home & I paid the driver a fair fee + a nice tip cuz he was good. I got a receipt. Hagerty reimbursed the tow + tip. I've only called a wrecker a 2-3 times total and they came quick & I wasn't overcharged; I called on those I knew. Once I was run over on a motorcycle and I couldn't make that call; was bad wreck.
I can tell you this: if you have agreed value on your baby, and You overvalued it high, and then wreck and prefer to just let the car go as a total; forget it. If You set the value too high, You've also set the bar so high that Hagerty will likely choose Not to declare Total. Also, twice I've dealt w/ the crap contract adjusters Hagerty sends out. Not a one had any experience / collectible-special interest vehicles. Just plain ol' run of the mill adjusters who do daily drivers as their bread n butter. None, zero were employees of Hagerty, simply contractors.
I've been told by a couple tow truck drivers that priority is given to AAA calls over other roadside assistance policies. Not sure if they pay better or if it's in their agreement with them.
Cancelled my insurance emergency tow option.
Got AAA. Even used it to get car towed from my garage to the shop to have the engine pulled for rebuild. Called at 8am they were here by 9am.
I have had good and 'not-so-good' service from Hagerty. I think they have been having more of these problems in the last 2-3 years. And Covid-19 has also caused additional problems. Not sure that any other service is much better. You may have a wait; but they will come and will have a flat-bed to put your car on.
