I replaced my Power Steering control valve a few weeks ago and didn't have the steering wheel centered. I pulled the nut on the top of the valve and used the suspension folk to separate it from the pitmen arm as I did when I removed the old one.
I can't get the pitmen arm to release from the control valve. I've banged the hell out of it and can't get it to budge.
Its only been on there for a week so I know its not sized on it.
This tool, bought this years ago. Pop's tie rod, ball joints, etc with ease and doesnt hurt the boot. Simply tighten hand tight, snug up the wing nuts on the side bolts so it can't slip off. Then crank it tight. Most time's that's all it takes to break the tapper. Sometimes if there real stubborn, a sharp rap on the head.
pretty sure the part number can be made out in the photo.
Worth owning if you're going to continue to own an old car. Can't tell you how many times I've used it.
Yes. You need a joint puller. You are hammering on a joint without any firm support on the pittman arm. A puller does not require a 'reaction' member. Once you crank on it, the joint separates.
