I’m not sure. I have owned the car about a month now and am not familiar with the specifics of what has been done to it before me. Definitely puzzling! The A/C works fine and definitely appreciated with our Texas heat.

Not unless wired different for AC to work. What has been reported and done is that the plug for the anti dieseling relay on the right. There has been a jumper on the plug on the tan and blue wire, for that relay.

Apparently something has been done to override the 2 relays. As long as the AC is working, the idle is maintained when in gear, and all fan speeds are working, I would leave it alone.

Yep, if those relays were bipassed and the AC works fine with the idle. Enjoy.
Gotta a love a car with some unknown history and repairs that are off the map. Will definitely enjoy the A/C no matter how it works! Thanks for the replies.
Dave,
Installed new relay, everything works as should on AC and both relays sending signal to compressor and the new shutting down high speed blower.
One issue when turning on AC one relay has a tinging humming noise.
Is that usual???

Ted, concerning your humming noise, which relay on your car has the ground wire lug under the relay mounting screw?
Mine is mounted on the right relay and ajchance's is mounted on the left relay.
I was looking at the drawings (fig. 41) and it shows the ground lug under the left relay mounting screw.
