So It looks like the ECM in my 82 corvette is bad. I'm having a extremely hard time finding a replacement, I did see something online about using an 84 automatic ECM just wanted to see if anyone had one for sale or knows where I can find one.

Good luck finding one, they are extremely hard to find and if you do, it's a crap shoot if they are any good. An 84 will work in an 82, but not the other way around and it has to be an automatic. The 4+3 will cause your idle to be way off. You can go to an EBL Flash II ECM and laptop tune it as a viable option. I also have access to a starter BIN file for a bone stock tune for an 82. It is about as turn-key as it gets, but can be tweaked in a little more. Install ECM, upload tune, hit the key and drive away. Also, stay away from CARDONE reman ECM's.

Thanks for the response Buccaneer, I'm not very tech savy but I did do some research on the EBL and reached out to Dynamic EFI. Is this a completely new unit or is it a tune they would do to my original ECM? Do you know of anywhere to find an 84 ECM I've had trouble finding those as well

Thanks again for any help
No problem. Well, they are both hard to find now a days to be honest and if you do find them they usually want to lot for them. Bob at Dynamic EFI is a great guy and knows a lot about his product, software and tuning. I deal specifically with Bob when it comes to my HAM board that interfaces the stock 82/84 harness to the newer style ECM to include the EBL Flash II, no cutting or spicing of your stock harness required. That is a very good product and I use one in my 82 as well. I have NO issues recommending that product to any CFI owner if they want to go that route. The product is solid and lots of members on this forum are using it, bot 82 and 84 and others.
This is a new unit and has NO tune installed. You will get a DVD with a lot of base tunes to start you out, but you MUST laptop tune your motor from there. Like I mentioned, I have access to a great base tune you can upload and at least drive the car and it will run well. It does need some tweaking though to get it closer to 100%.
It sounds like this is definitely the route I'm looking to go
So just to give you some background about the situation. I had this in the shop and they called me and said the ECM was corresponding was not communicating to the ignition switch so it stayed on and was killing my battery. If I swap out to this new board will this solve the issue to the ignition switch?
Sorry I'm not very tech savy at all, just wondering if the entire units needs to be replaced

Thanks again,
OK, to be honest here, I have never seen that before. So, with that said how are they troubleshooting that and verifying that the ECM is the issue? Other than that, is the car running OK and no CEL coming ON? Here's something that is pretty easy to rule out the ECM from being the issue (again I have my doubts) Pull the fuse in the battery box behind the drivers seat. The fuse is the direct power to the ECM all by it's self. If the battery continues to run down...IT"S NOT THE ECM causing the drain. Call me and we can talk about this if you like. My number is on my site. Good luck
I agree, check like a bloodhound the wiring and subsystems first. 95% of the time it's other things. ECMs rarely go bad. Not saying 'never', but very infrequently. (I always want to blame those damn things too sometimes, ha ha...). Was the mechanic using the GM troubleshooting tree for your year vette?
Even when guys replace ECMs/PCMs and claim the new one resolved the problem, it doesn't prove the computer was actually faulty; could have been other related components or poor terminal connections that were replaced/restored/wiggled in the repair process that ultimately resolved the problem. And what mechanic who might have claimed an ECM was faulty ..then found out after replacing that it WASN'T ...and later tracked down the real problem ...how many of those mechanics are going to fess up and 'eat' the price of the new ECM that didn't need replacing? None. They're still going to say, "Yep the new ECM did the trick." and the customer is going to drive away and be glad its fixed (even if the problem was a shorted wire or bad fuse). But of course yeah, sometimes ECMs do flake out. Hopefully in your case you get things resolved soon.
