Hi all. I’ve been working on a 72 corvette base 350 for the last few months. I’ve got it together and it’s running pretty well. I’ve decided to rebuild the quadrajet carb and I’ve got it torn down. I’m looking for the correct procedure to clean all of the parts. I tried the Berryman parts dip and it left a greenish film everywhere. Any ideas on how to make it perfectly clean throughout. I’m not looking for a polished look, just extremely clean.
Thanks in advance.
How long did you leave it in the cleaner? The parts only need to be in the cleaner until the 'gunk' is liquified. You can rinse the gunk and residue off the parts after cleaning them. Then blow out all passages and dry the parts with compressed air. For good instructions on how to properly rebuild a Q-jet carb, get Cliff Ruggles manual on "How to Rebuild and Modify Rochester Quadrajet Carburetors".
You are trying to save money by going DIY on your carb. Good for you!! But, knowing how to do that job properly should be worth a few buck$, too. The book and the kit total a LOT less than another carb....
