I have recently purchased an all original 22k mile car. It is a late production model , September 82. It doesn't have any hood alignment bumpers. It also has no screw holes where they would have been attached. I notice most 82's have them. Did they not install them because the hood fits perfectly or did they run out or just forgot to put them on. Anyone know of this as I would like to have an all original car but I don't want to drill holes to install them.
Not clear about the fact they were only used if there was an alignment problem. I thought all cars had 4. 2 on each side. And custom cut to fit alignment. And definitely no screw holes as there rubber blocks glued in. The replacement ones from the vendors are glued down with 3M super weatherstrip cement. Not totally certain how the factory glued them. My car, I've had for over 30 years had 2 missing when you bought it in 1989. I could see the glue marks where the missing ones had been. And oddly enough. They were not symmetric.

I don't have any glue marks and the installation manual says that they are attached with 1/2" screws.
Darrell; Hood alignment bumpers were placed at the factory on an 'as needed' basis.
So I f the hood is lining up with the fenders consider yourself to be a lucky guy.
Because the hood on an 82 Is SMC (sheet molding compound, made in matched metal dies)....with double walls....they tend to not migrate.
HOWEVER! If you find that after adjusting the latches and even adjusting the front hinges, the hood does not line up to your satisfaction, THEN you may add them as you wish.
Obviously hood bumpers only RAISE the hood in the appx area in which they are placed.

Good luck Unkahal
I feel very lucky that my hood alignment is great! My mechanic who only works on Corvettes said my car is cherry lol and I purchased a great survivor. Being a late build, I hope that they finally figured out how to put it together properly. I also consider you an expert on the 82 Vette and read your replies regularly. Your response has put me at ease. Keep up the good work Unkahal!!! Your knowledge is helping Corvette obsessed people like myself every day.
Darrell;
Beautiful car! I see the Sierra sits in the driveway! I don't think the 'trade' of having all your plastic burnt out by the sun here in Planet Crematoria is actually much worse than having rust creep into everything. I'm from No VT. originally....so I had both happen!
Thanks for the kind words....You Canucks are always SOOOOOO polite!
I try to help those who help themselves. You cannot fix your car on the internet! lol
Pretty soon, your's sleeps and mine wakes up. STILL 107° F here and we will break every record this year for incessant heat.
The hood and lights look as good as anything B-G ever made....so be happy!
Darrell,
I have also learned a lot from L-46 Man. Wonderful resource, he is.
On my 82CE, I wanted to do a little better alignment on my hood. I got a set of hood rubber bumpers on-line and was able use Weatherstrip Adhesive to glue them in place. No drilling or screws. So far they have held for several months, no issues.
Your car looks amazing. I wish I had space, time, and money for a few dozen late-80’s Vettes!
Feel free to post some more pin-up photos of your smokin hot car.
I purchased the car from Wichita Kansas from Steve Fitch who is best known for purchasing and restoring the American Graffiti movie cars, the yellow t bucket and the 55 Chevy that Harrison Ford drove. A super nice person who loves Corvettes. It was originally sold new in Clearwater Florida. The original owner put on about 12k miles in one year, then sold to another Florida couple who owned it for about 18 years and put on about 5k miles, the third owner was from long island NY and they put on another 5k miles in 18 years. All documented. I looked for almost 3 years before I found this one. I was trying to buy a Canadian Corvette until I found out there were only 469 Corvettes sold in Canada that year. Rarer than a C8 up here. Like trying to find a needle in a haystack lol, that is why I had to go to the US to find this beauty. All original right down to the brakes. The car is currently being gone over to make it safe and drivable. I'm hoping it's ready tomorrow so my wife and I can take it out to see the fall colors.

My ultimate dream would be to have an 82 in every color from that year. lol
Absolutely beautiful car. Love the color combination.
Don’t listen if anyone criticizes the Cross-Fire Injection system. When I bought my car, it was running rough. Because I am hard headed and absolutely fell for the 82 body and front end combination, I decided to get it anyway.
I pulled the TBI plate, rebuilt both units, new IACs, new fuel filter, and a stock ECM from a 1984 vette, and now my 82 CFI runs amazingly smooth. Starts immediately, and will give you whiplash if you stomp the gas.
I realize it is 38 years old and will have problems, but that is with every car I own.
One of my favorite things is to pop the hood and explain to my non-CFI loving friends what all that “stuff” is under the hood. They have never even heard of cross-fire injection since it had such a short lifespan.
