Default 1972 c3 lt1

Hello
i have just putschard a 72 C3 LT1. I have completed a tune up except for the changing the condenser and points. Much is said about this car having points and a condenser. But I can’t find them. I have posted a picture of the distributor. Normal they are visible. Are under neath the bottom plate. Or is this not the original distributor?
Thanks

That looks like a pertronix part. Call Pertronix and find out what it is: https://fastliftparts.com/products/025-005b

The points have been removed. Looks like a Pertronix unit.

Do yourself a favor while you are in there and install a curve kit:

https://www.holley.com/products/igni...0-%20Non-Brand

If you do not have Lars papers on timing....E-Mail him for them. The curve kit and the timing are one of the biggest things you can do to that LT-1 to make it run better than stock. All it is, is your time and about $15.

Agree on last comment, LT1 had a unpainted aluminum intake.

I see an 8 on the intake plenum and oe LT1 valve cover. Without additional pictures the intake could have been sprayed we really don’t know based on what we see.

Related question for LT1 experts: Was the LT1 engine available without the transistor ignition system?

Check to see if it has the 8" balancer. The LT-1 would have that.

All 70 and 71 LT1's have transistorized ignition and all 72 LT1's have points.
(I am fortunate that the LT1's in my care #111130 & #121783 have their original TI systems, #783 was built the last day, 18 cars from the end of 71 production.)

The distributor doesn't look to be installed correctly either. Should be behind the support bracket.

In 1972, LT-1 cars had a VIN identifier of an "L" as the fifth character. 1970 and 1971 LT-1 cars did not have a unique VIN identifier.

VIN examples:
1Z67L = LT-1 car (convertible)
1Z67K = Base 350 car (convertible)

for this reason 72 LT-1’s are less likely to be faked. It’s a lot harder than earlier cars.

George I hope you got your dizzy sorted out
