Hey guys, well I finally got my first vette and decided to register on here and just say HI! Im sure I will be on here quite a bit as my car is quite the project, lol. Anyway its an 81 coupe that belonged to a 17 year old kid, so it is in need of some MAJOR TLC. I am wondering where is the best place to find all the front fiberglass for my shark at a good price yet with good quality. here are some pics that I have snapped from when I brought it home saturday to where I am at with it now.
lason,
welcom to fcorvette froum. Have fun with the resto. Lots of good tips, ideas and support can be found here! Ive learned quite a bit here over the last few months.
sorry, I cant help you with your original question about the nose piece
Thinking you will find all kinds of projects here.... everything from complete restorations to just trying to figure out the regular day to day C-3 problems that come up. As far as fiberglass.... thinking you have alot of choices as many of the Vette parts places have just about very part imaginable. I've not had to deal with replacing those parts, so I will leave it to others to give you some suggestions.
My project... a '74 coupe that was converted to convertible was done before I acquired it out of Cannuckland. All GM glass went into that transformation. Betting the aftermarket glass is just as good.
Thats the way I am, just figure out the damage and jump on it, lol. Actually I was going to fix EVERY single crack on the front but after going over the nose and losing track of how many cracks i had i got to ripping som fiberglass off, actually cutting with the ole dremel. But thanks for the warm welcome guys, like I said, this is my first vette and Im a newbie at all this fiberglass stuff (I still cant get over fenders being glued to the car?!?!?!).
Mid America, ZIP or probably Corvette Central would be an okay place for the front end. I know that complete front ends(w/out bumpers) for a 74 is about 900.00$....you might be able to find a better prince somewhere else though...
Welcome to the forum. Nice looking Vette. You may want to check with
Vanacor for your fiberglass parts. I bought my ground effects from them.
Good luck on your project and don't forget to post more pics!
 :seeya
glad to see another C3 owner! you do have my respect just ripping it apart! i freaked when i first took a piece of 400 grit sandpaper to my vette.
Wow you are tearing into it aren't you? I found it easier to buy a donor car rather than try to find all the parts I needed. My car the front end kissed a Semi truck. I needed a lot of parts. If you need support brackets, inner fenders, lights, all that stuff you may want to look into a donor. Check out my web site in my sig you can see what I did. Bill Hunter is selling almost a complete car in the c3 for sale section for $2000.00, I am thinking about picking it up and making a Hot Rod out of it. Looks like you maybe able to use it more than me.
Welcome aboard and good luck.
Bob
Thanks guys like I said, it belonged to a 17 year old kid that just flat abused it. He said he drove it everyday which was scary considering when I loaded it up on the trailor I rammed the front of the trailor due to absolutley NO BRAKES!!! His dad said they redid the motor, tranny, rear end and front suspension and the car drives anything but straight, had more oil ON the motor than IN the motor and like I said no brakes. But instead of just throwing some primer on it and fixing all the problems I decided to take it down to the nitty gritty and start from scratch. It was scary though, after 23 years of looking up to (and at the tail lights, lol) vettes I FINALLY got one and first think I do is rip it up, but like I said I plan on doing everything right. Thanks again for the warm welcome guys
O and Wes, like your beauty needs any paint and body, that thing looks immaculate. I cant wait to see it when you call it "done". I still cant get over how immaculate that coupe of yours was.
:seeya Welcome to the friendliest web site on the net! I'm a relatively new owner too (April '02). I might not be able to give you much advice but bet you'll benefit from lots of the questions I'll be asking  :D Beverly
