Wanted to see if anyone else has ever run into this on a new caliper. I purchased the caliper from Zip Corvette for the rear of my 72. After painting the caliper, I noticed that the housing had a hole in the casting. I was told by Zip that these casting holes are common and will not adversely affect the caliper. Just wanted to get some input and see if anyone else has run into this and whether they experienced any negative affect.
Yes, I have seen those casting voids many times. They will not affect performance
Cheers, Greg .
Agreed. I've had 16 calipers through my hands over the decades and several had this void. It's from drilling the half-to-half bolt hole a bit too deeply for the casting width. Nothing to worry about and your void is much smaller than the ones I've seen. The only caveat I might offer is that moisture could be trapped in there so filling over the hole and repainting may be a good move if you drive much in the wet.
