Hi, I recently converted my steering system from the original steering box to rack and pinion from Flaming River. However, with the new system, the headers need to be replaced as part of the new steering system was hitting one of the old header pipes. I removed the headers and bought one new system from Flowmaster with a different pipe configuration and it still is hitting the new steering. I am going to have to heavily dimple the one obstructed pipe to get it to fit temporarily, but was wondering if anyone has installed this Rack and Pinion kit and if you replaced the headers, did you find a manufacturer that makes a true bolt in replacement to clear the new parts of the steering system? Where I live there are not any custom header manufacturers i can turn to....This is for a 1977 Vette. Thank you.

How much do you need to dimple them? you can almost flatten them and it wont effect the power....Hotrod did a show on it for Engine Masters.... bashed the crap out of them and the numbers didnt change
Also Stan’s Headers in Auburn Washington makes (and installs) a tri-Y header with a much different pipe arrangement. Since they are also installing what they make, they could probably tell you of they will fit directly with your steering mod.
I put a set in my 78, but don’t have R&P steering. I did have to dimple spot to fit a socket on one of the bolts. After 8 years the pipes look great; shiny silver turned rainbow blue where they got real hot.
