This has probably been beaten to death, but it came up on another blog.
What, if anything really happens if you delete the ecm and don't add a manual converter lock up switch? I've talked to several trans shops and they basiclly say it's no big deal. Won't damage anything and won't really affect performance much.
Comments????
With that vintage of THM-350 there will be no problem if you don't employ the lockup function. But that is NOT the case with more modern autos. When using lockup, less heat is generated inside the trans. Modern cars are made with the assumption that the L/U system will be activated on a regular basis, minimizing the chance for overheating. If you turn the L/U system 'off' on modern vehicles, overheating could take place.
This design concept was initiated in the 1980's. Also at that time, the design of the lockup clutch components was sinnied down to minimize weight, so they weren't as strong as the earliest lockup hardware. There are a lot of concerns regarding proper use and engagement of L/U clutch systems, so do your research and think about any alterations you may wish to do with a lockup type transmission.
