Picked up this composite spring for My 73 vette....Not sure what brand it is.....I guess I need the mounting bracket ? Looks like there should be like a one inch spacer that goes in the middle ...Anyone know where I could get the mounting hardware ?
It looks like it could be ride tech ?
It looks liked a VBP spring to me. These pictures show the one I have on my car. I recently talked with Van Steel. They have a mounting kit that they said works with a VBP spring. It has a spacer. The installation I have shown here has no spacer. I ordered from VBP when they were in business and this is all I got.
looks like a VB&P to me as well. but weight is not punched out. that seems strange. mine has been in my car for well over 20 years, I'd have to have a look but don't remember a spacer.

Ok I see the bracket on the bottom....Is there a smaller bracket like the bottom one on top ? Of course the bolts are smaller than the stock ones ...... Present set up..
Mine is also VBP, and when I now think about it, when I got mine, I was replacing another monospring and I simply used the spacer from that old spring. I believe I also replaced my end spring bolts because my ride height changed. I'm thinking now that I do not need the spacer afterall, that I could remove it, put different sized bolts to hold the spring to the diff, and return to shorter safer bolts on the ends, maybe.

I agree. I installed a VB&P spring in my wife's former '79, about 25 years ago, and I don't remember any spacers coming with it....

The car will sit however you adjust the tension on the outer bolts to...

Hmm....I see....The bolts I have on the stock set up are much longer.....I did get 8 inch bolts just in case I need to adjust ride height....About time I swapped out my rear bushings anyway...
Now that I look at the photo I see the spacer...Maybe I will call van steel and see if they will sell me a spacer...I don't think VBP is still in business.....My car is at a friends house who will do the work....Rather have a spacer available before he starts taking down the stock spring...

went out and had a look. put it on back in the mid 90's. hard to see with spare tire in the way. but got a "end" view photo.
yup! definitely a spacer in there!

I'm trying to understand the geometry of the spacer and the bolts at the wheel. If you use a 1 1/2 inch spacer and then have to use bolts 1 1/2 inch longer, what's the difference with no spacer and shorter bolts?
I bought the composite spring kit for my '73 convertible from VB&P back in the 90's as well. It also came with the 1" rubber spacer.
Since I was looking to lower the car in the rear for autocrossing, I called VB&P back then and asked about eliminating the spacer. They told me its primary purpose was to isolate the spring from the heat of the differential and essentially replace the steel spring with an set-up of equal thickness. I replaced the 1" rubber block with a spacer made of composite phenolic material, 1/4" thick and gained a 3/4" drop. The phenolic spacer is a terrific heat insulator we used extensively in aircraft to isolate components from sources of heat. It's been on the car now for almost 30 years without any negative issues.

Good luck... GUSTO
Great idea....A mechanic buddy of mine were kicking around an idea like that if I could not get the spacer......I thought also the spacer was there for may be cushion, not metal on metal sort of.....Also maybe the bend in the spring had to be a certain angle and the spacer provided that....
Either way the mounting kit w shipping was $49 dollars......Also adding 8 inch bolts to rear springs to even out car....Mine is about 3/4 inch higher on passenger side..
I’m hoping to revive this old thread since I’m planning on installing a monospring pretty soon on my ‘77. I picked up a used 360lb spring but it did not come with the mounting spacer kit. I know I can buy it from Vansteel but $70 plus shipping is pretty steep for a small piece of delrin and two small pieces of poly.
So I was curious if anyone knows what thickness the “poly spring pads” are?
I just want to make sure I don’t crack my diff cover when tightening the bolts.
Putting a plastic spring on a 1977 Corvette is one of the worst things you could do to your 77. OH, unless you are going to race the car. Plastic is way to stiff when you need a bit softer and way to soft when you need stiff. Most cars I see with a composite spring sit way to high in the rear.
