Default transmission

motor is out of my 73, bellhousing is attached to trans I need to install clutch fork and bearing
but can't get to the BH bolts.do I have to pull trans to do this? do you unhook shift rods from
trans or the shifter Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob, sounds like you've never replaced a throwout bearing before. yes Bob. you need to pull trans off of bellhousing. trans shaft go's through the throw out bearing, through clutch and into pilot bearing in the back of the crank.
sounds like the clutch may still be on the back of the engine???. should be fun putting engine back in if trans is still in the car. yes, you need to remove shift rods. remove shifter from mounting bracket, then remove shifter from car, remove shifter mounting bracket from car. bolts holding bell housing to trans can now be removed. slide trans up and back as far as you can get it to clear throw out bearning/ Bell housing. then tip front of trans downward. so shaft clears bell housing. slide trans down and out. (Forward). now you can get the bellhousing out.
