now that you think its droning my pickup truck had a flowmaster at the end of the pipe and without a tail pipe I had what you are descrribing. It was very annoyng. Once I got the tail pipe on it got better but probably just because it was further away, (but it is still there). Which you cant do with the vette design...I've heard of flowmaster droning on this forum before...at leasst you are narrowing it down!!!

There's no muffler shops in your town? Any such place could put in a crossover.

Not sure what equipment you have? Can you cut and weld? If you can it's essentially the cost of the materials for the cross-over. It might be well worth it to get the stock support brackets and modify the other end to hook up the mufflers...... or if you really hate yours, then get the stock mounted mufflers.

For budget purposes, if I was keeping the mufflers for now, then I would take a generic support bracket and modify it like the stock corvette mounting bracket so it mounts solidly. Then I could take my time to figure out the long term plan.

Belgium. Not so easy here. On my last ride, it took me forever to find a shop willing to install a crossover... even with a kit supplied. And that was 10 years ago.

I wish I wish I could weld (and had the gear). Ooooone day

The current plan is stop gap. I suspect I’d really like a stock set up with a balancing tube.

I’ll have to learn to weld first

The stock set up is too quiet, you'd probably get tired of that quickly as well...after all you do have a Corvette it should sound sort of mean.
It too bad that you can't get simple muffler work done over there, seems almost unreal. I have no experience with those inserts, but if they don't fix your problem, the Flowmaster Deltaflow 50 series mufflers do not drone at all, are quieter than the 40 series and would be a fairly easy fix....if you can find a shop to do it for you, I have these on my car.

Happy new year!

Happy New Year

Yes. If this doesn’t work, a muffler swap is the next stop. I would think that I could find a place sufficiently skilled to do that.

Wow... that was fast. The exhaust inserts and hangers came in quite quickly. Good ol’ Summit Racing.

Reading the instructions on and in box, it seems that if you are just running pipes, the insert should be placed after the collector.

If you’re running muffs, you can put them in the tail pipes.

These inserts do not look very sophisticated.

The fit is super tight, I think mainly because my tailpipes are slightly ovalled-out. The instructions say to grind off a few thousandths, but there not very much meat on the discs.

I think another option would be to simply pound them in, understanding that they will never be coming back out.

I think I’m ok with that, because if this fails, I think the next step is to swap out my mufflers with known quieter ones.

Hmm. Found this on sale. Maybe pounding it in won’t be necessary.

The tool was cheap and could easily break. On the other hand, only a very slight expansion is needed.

I bought this too

Fail.

The cheap tool was not able to put (remove) a dent from the Flowmaster tail pipes. This Flowmasters are pretty heavy duty.

I’m not in the mood to start putzing around to put these inserts into the exhaust pipes behind collectors.

I think I’m now at considering just the cross-over, getting new quieter muffs or a whole new exhaust.

Well folks folks, I ordered the below exhaust crossover kit.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-642122

There’s a small garage around the corner and the mechanic there says he can do it.

Let’s hope this solves the problem. I will also be asking him to go through the exhaust hangers to make sure things are squared away there too. He says he can handle that too.

Instructions said emphatically not to use an impact. Even without it, the tool broke.

I’m kinda ok with it because, having looked at the inserts... they look too restrictive to my taste.

I once used a SnapOn tool to expand a pipe. It did it no sweat. My guess is that it’s definitely Chinese.

This is a before
