I am stumped. I’ve done it before but this time I can not get the brake hose spring clip to go on the rear rubber brake lines on my 72 Vette. Before you say I’m dumb. I’ve rebuilt my railing arms myself, motor and rear diff. Why can I not get these brake clips to slide on. I’ve tried a hammer, pliers and nothing works just bends the clips. I’ve made sure I started them off on the groove. Maybe it’s just the aftermarket brake hose. What kind of tips do you have. Thanks.
I’m telling you I have tried a hammer, crescent wrench, screwdriver you name it. Can get it to go. What happens is once I get so far, the clip bends out of the groove.
sounds like one of two things. either the grove in the line isn't cut deep enough. or the clip isn't wide enough in it's I.D. have you measured the depth of the grove in the line compared to the original? perhaps filing the I.D. of the clip to make it a tad wider would do the trick.

The clips on my '71 are like Alan's, thin and like a spring clip.
From our good friend Alan 71: I think he meant that they can't be put on upside down??

I use a small ball-peen hammer to tap the clip in into place.

Thanks for all y’all’s help. I compared my newer rubber hoses to the original ones and the groove is much shallower. I’ve grounded some of the inner part of the clip off and it’s still bends when going around the hose. I ordered new clips from top flight corvette but I think the issue is the hose itself. Hopefully the parking brake clips will be fine to hold the line
If the hoses and the clips are "new", they could easily BOTH be machined differently than the original parts. You just need to be sure that the 'modifications' you make to get them assembled will NOT cause you any additional safety risk when in operation. "Whittling" on the clip does not present anywhere near the risk of 'whittling' on the hose!
