I'd hate to just keep replacing my calipers and bleeding my brakes each time. Hoping to find some higher quality calipers with SS sleeves which I can just rebuild myself in future if something goes bad (instead of shipping to east coast)
I would be interested in knowing what the Ra or RMS values are of the bores. I’ve seen quite a difference among those I have seen over the years with some exhibiting a “mirror” finish with others that you can feel the irregularities with your fingernail. Take a close look at your leaking bore. If they aren’t smooth, you might be able to address the problem by running a cylinder hone for a few seconds to knock down the irregularities.
You should have 0.0045” to 0.010” gap between the piston and the bore. Get some shimstock and remove the O-ring.
if it wasn’t for the warranty i would rip it apart..i find it strange after replacing pads they really started leaking..
op I didn’t have ss inserts or i would have rebuilt with orings myself..not understanding the shipping..many offer free shipping ..

Only place I found free shipping for calipers was TopFlight, but at their price for non-Delco calipers I could get Delco calipers from Eckler's. So that's what I did. Eckler's did claims free shipping on their website for today but calipers aren't part of that, I had to pay $77 shipping.
In any case, we'll see how it goes, I'll update this thread once I have them installed. I got brand new Delco casting with 4um SS sleeve O-ring calipers (Part #: 25-876593-1). Crossing my fingers. Hopefully this thread will help out others in future who are looking for good calipers, and hopefully the ones I get will last a long time

i'm still waiting for my l88 fresh air box that I ordered from Ecklers back in May... If they had given me any indications that it was on backorder, I would have ordered it from the supplier on ebay who had 5 in stock for $10 extra..

LOL
i love the warranty.. keep us posted..like the sleeve will leak.. wtf.. i really think it is not rocket science, just build quality and tolerances.. i would have rebuilt mine but they were not sleeved. Yes top flight is my RF waiting to hear.. if i knew casting not chinesium i would have considered or went aftermarket non china.. after this, if i have more issues i may negotiate sending me o ring kit and absolve them of warranty..
new caliper warranty good ole AC DELCO marketing
Limited Lifetime Warranty: This caliper has a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser against leakage of the stainless steel sleeve during normal use. Seals and pistons are expressly excluded from the warranty as these are considered normal wear items.

Yikes sorry to hear that. I'll give ecklers a call today to see when they expect my calipers to come, I certainly can't wait that long summer will be over!

Yeah... that's why they add the "limited" in their lifetime warranty, to show its not a real warranty. I agree, I just want good quality sleeves with small roughness and tight tolerances. Praying to a higher power

Nice, I like TopFlight a lot since they offer free shipping often and seem reliable. Well see how my experience is with Ecklers, they claim I should get it middle of next week

There is one additional option that hasn't been mentioned yet... the Wilwood D8 calipers.
They are not inexpensive, but to date I've not heard any complaints about them beyond the cost. They are a direct fit in place of the GM calipers. Various vendors carry them including; Summit, Jegs, Speedway, Vansteel and even Wilwood themselves.

Good luck... GUSTO
Thanks Gusto, Wilwood is a bit outside my price range. Thanks for the idea! I do have my new SS sleeved O-ring Delco calipers on the way, should be here by end of next week.

Wanted to update people who may read this thread in the future:
So after struggling with the cheap Autozone calipers (tried 3 different driver's side calipers, bled brakes after each one, all of them leaked), I returned them all, frustrated. I didn't think they would give me 3 different calipers all which leak. On their website they claim "Duralast remanufactured brake calipers are built under the strictest quality standards, in a state-of-the-art facility. Each caliper is extensively tested to ensure it meets or exceeds OEM performance". Don't trust it!!! I wasted A LOT of time. The only positive experience I'd say is the people working at Autozone were very nice and understanding, and I got my money back.
Now for Ecklers: I got the parts on time, within a week of ordering. Instantly they feel higher quality, and even the boot around the pistons has a different design (not that it matters for fluid sealing but something to note). I installed all 4 new casting SS sleeved O-ring calipers a few weeks ago, bled the brakes, and the pedal is now pretty firm. I went for a very short drive (for the first time!) and they felt pretty good (didn't get a chance to bed them in yet). So far, I'd recommend Ecklers. Will post if anything changes, I'm very happy to be done with the brakes, crossing fingers no more brake issues in the near future.
New Delco Moraine castings, SS sleeved with O-rings from Ecklers New caliper New caliper Poor quality Autozone caliper, had 0 miles on it since installing.

I didn't read every reply.....so.....have any members noticed the the top half of old caliper pads seem either much thicker OR thinner than the bottom half of the old pads???
If so, I think I know the problem (as some of you may have already).
