Default 69 seat belts

Hello to all. My question is about the original seat belts in my 69 coupe. The rear retractors, I believe are horizontal mounted ones. My question is sort of silly but what exactly does that mean. The retractors and the outlet for the belt itself appear to be at about half way between horizontal and vertical. Any moving of the retractors up or down just seems to make the retracting of the belt bad.
Does any one have a picture of theirs that would show me the proper mounting? Thanks and take care.

Hey mbp,
It its my understanding that all 1969's came with the bolt hole locations regardless of whether or not the shoulder harness belts were optioned. I have my carpet out so will have a look tomorrow morning. I am fairly certain if you lift the carpet you will see the the location for the shoulder harness bolts.

You don't want the seat belt webbing to contact the plastic housing. The sharp edges on the housing will start to fray the belt edges. I'm not sure why GM didn't cast that opening with rounded edges??!! You might want to use a Dremel, etc to round and smooth the edges on that opening.

I have a November 69 coupe. The shoulder harness retractors are horizontal.
There is a small metal protrusion on the bottom of the retractor that meets a depression in the plate under the carpet. Therefore the retractor when properly installed has only one orientation.
Can you post a picture of what you have?

Hi again. Not able to post a picture but I understand what you are saying and will have to reach around under the carpet and secure it in the depression to "lock it in place". Thanks for every ones help.
