Ive been thinking of doing some racing at the tracks when summer rolls around. My only concern right now is that when I stop real quick the car will almost stall. It hasent stalled on me yet but it seems very close to stalling. I was wondering if any one else has had this problem. I am assuming its due to the gas piling up at the front of the carburetor bowls. do you think this could cause that. What can I do to get rid of this problem besides converting to fuelinjection.
I had this problem on my '71. Tried everything I could think of including lower bowl level and higher. Also had the problem with three different carbs (Holley, Demon and Edelbrock). Never solved it. Now with EFI that problem (along with a bunch of other irritants) is gone. Probably not what you wanted to hear. :)
Thanks for the tips guys. Ill try lowering my float level a bit when the wheather permits. Hopefully that will help. In my LONG term plans for the car I do want to convert to fuel injection though. I think Ill have to wait a few years before I can afford that though.

It sounds like a float level problem to me also but it could be from the front or the rear floats. When you stop hard the fuel is forced away from the front jets and is forced towards the rear jets. If the front float level is too low, the jets can be uncovered and the engine wants to stall. If the rear float level is too high, the fuel goes into the jets and then into the intake, flooding the engine and also causing a stall.
make sure your carb has the fuel bowl vent baffle/whistle,part #26-40, installed in the metering bodys to prevent fuel spillover during accelerating and braking. :chevy
Re: Almost stalls when stopping quick (clem zahrobsky)
Same problem here, can be fixed by lowering the float level dramatically. You need to have a good fuel pump though to keep the bowls full when they are set low.
