I have a 73 L -82 and the exhaust drone at 1500/ 200o rpm is killing my ears it has a pypes exhaust 2 1/2 with x pipe and their no drone turbo mufflers on it and the car has dougs headers on it the motor makes about 430 hp should I go with stock exhaust would that eliminate the drone or any advice would be appreciated
I had the Corvette Central exhaust with the magnaflow mufflers and had a terrible drone that hurt my ears. Replaced the magnaflows with the stock style round mufflers and that eliminated the drone. Now I have headers and Summit turbo mufflers and have no drone.
From: I tend to be leery of any guy who doesn't own a chainsaw or a handgun.
Try putting an H pipe between the header reducers. An X pipe packages so far back that its noise cancelling ability is compromised. Installing my H pipe was one of the best things I ever did to reduce the cabin noise/drone.
Same problem here, '76 L48 with a '72 exhaust system, and Magna Flow or Super Flow or Something Flow mufflers and between 1,500-2,200 RPM, especially going up a hill, the droning is terrible. Unfortunately, that's a common RPM range to be in.
Time for an H pipe I guess.

I have pypes 2 1/2 exhaust with there race mufflers and it droans about 2200 rpm... I hate it.
Pypes says the new turbos don't droan.... what bs.
Oh I have a 69 427
Loking at internet this one seemed easy enough to try and reversible
Clamp weights to the exhaust pipes. Exhaust drone can be damped by increasing the density of the material through which the vibration must travel. Clamp solid steel or lead to the exhaust pipe both before and after the muffler. Use ring clamps to secure the weight to the exhaust pipes.
Keep the headers put some white box stock type turbos back on it should be fine.
Cannot stand Magnaflows. Neighbor has them on a 330hp Gm crate. Super loud doesnt even describe that car...it was more irritating than my old 5.0 460 w/original flowmasters w/turndowns right before the axle. 69 F bird, whole car was dynamatted, floors roof doors all of it.
I like loud exhausts but my god.
Always wondered about something similar to the post about claming metal on the pipe..C4s used a dampner on their driveshaft to dampen harmonics, may have to try something like that...bet this heimholtz(??) deal would help also. Wish I could weld
Well there's something to try before you change it. I've herd exhaust exiting under the body drones and make sure to get the tip past but honestly don't have a ton of exp with it. I don't think either my C3 or C4 drone, did the one exhaust and redid the muffler/tip on the other myself. I'll post the vids for an example of my tip placement.
First tho do you have any tip at all?. I see on their website it says your to reuse the stock one for your 69, also their vids are kinda loud so idk if a tip will solve it but you could try some cheaper pipe n extend them first to test it out if you have no tips.
Here's the vids, spoiler they are all single muffler. First mu C3 with the old magnaflow setup, once it's running I'll make a vid with the new dynomax muffler
I installed the Magnaflow 2-1/2” with x-pipe system on my 73.
I did modify the mufflers to exit out the back using 2-1/2” Gibson tips because the system had turn down tips. Everyone says they sound great and I don’t have any drone.
Of course, everything on my car is modified.
If you do stay with the stock system you can put in an H-pipe fairly easy.
