The AIM for my 77 L48 shows a starter heat shield. I don't see that part on my car and am hoping you guys can can post a picture of it for me, preferably with the part number. If you can easily remove the shield and take a picture, that would be great; otherwise, just a picture from under the car will help.
I don't see a starter heat shield in my 1980 A.I.M. There is a "shield" that covers the solenoid. That solenoid splash shield is PN 3959552 for 1964-77 Corvettes (SBC).
I have included a link to Corvette part numbers that one of the CF members posted some time back. The information above came from group 2.104. These are large pdf files so a dial up modem will probably be too slow. In addition to the part numbers, these files also have "exploded" part illustrations. http://www.curveo.net/corvette/
I also have an 80 and didn't know about a standare heat shield. However I had a heat sink problem with my new starter. I just oredered a shield from Eckler's and intalled it right over the starter. It uses the starter bolts for attachment. Or, you could use the heat blacket, which raps around the starter. Once I installed the shield, my start problems ended! Good Luck, L8TER, Paul.
Paul, That's exactly the picture I was looking at. I'm sorry I called it a starter heat shield. :conehead You are correct (as usual). It is the solenoid heat shield. Thanks.

Re: Starter heat shield (virtue4u)
Just bolted one on my 74 which was missing the stock piece. Looks to shield heat from the stock Ram-Horn exhaust piping. Doubt it will protect selinoid or stater much from my new header pipes. Recommend after market (like Ecklers) for header setup.
