Hopefully this won’t be the first of many “what does this wire go to?” questions. I’m putting the dash back in on my ‘72 base convertible and I’m not sure were this wire goes. Because it is black, I assumed it was a ground wire. However, if I test the resistance with my multimeter between it and the frame, I get nothing. My only conclusion is that it goes someplace to ground something else and I just ground it with everything else. Any thoughts? Thank you.
That looks like a ground wire for the back of your speedometer or tachometer. The prong that is on it should be affixed to the metal bucket on the back of either of those gauges. Should be a ground on each one with a metal arch grounding bar connecting both the speedo and the tach at the top. Looks like the bolt holding the prong fell
off. If you lost gauge lights in either one that’ll be why or if it was intermittent performance that’s why because the ground bar at the top is still in place allowing it to have ground just not as good of a ground.
Agree with above. Could also be the Aux RH Dash Brace ground.
You should be able to tell where it grounds based on where (how far) it exits the wiring harness.
The fact that when you check it for continuity to ground with a multimeter and get nothing likely means you haven't connected the LH Door Jamb Ground lug that grounds the dash harness to the vehicle.
