Can anyone measure and tell me what the size and length are of the 4 water pump bolts are? I think they are all 3/8 coarse, but I know there were like 3 different lengths - there is a long one to mount the alternator bracket, and medium one, and two of the same length.
I put them all in a labeled baggie as I do all my bolts as I take stuff apart, but it seems to have wandered off.
Measure the depth of the threaded holes (separately), add the thickness of the water pump flange, then subtract 1/4 inch. That's the length bolts you need plus a lockwasher.
Put Permatex gasket sealer or Ultra Black RTV sealant on the bottom 3-4 threads of each bolt before you install them.
Thanks a lot Catfish - I knew I could just measure them but I won't be back in the garage until Thursday and would like to just pick some up beforehand.
thread a nut on the home depot bolts before you cut them down. spinning nut off cleans up the thread end. paint them orange and see if you can live with the non-orig look or if you want to order correct bolts...
I don't think ill have to necessarily cut any down, but I might use a piece of threaded rod for the alternator bracket. If I cut bolts down or rod, I always spin a die on first, cut it, chamfer the end ,then spin the die off to correct any threads that may have gotten bent.
