Default Ack! Need motor mount recommendation!

Rats. I just raised the motor to replace the broken power steering pump adjustment brace, and found that the motor mount (driver's side) is broken.

What's the consensus for the best quality aftermarket replacement?

I really want to start putting parts back on, not taking more off...

TIA,
Larry

yup.. been there..

Engine mount replacement advice 79 L82 - CorvetteForum - Chevrolet Corvette Forum Discussion

you will get lots of good advice from poly to solid mounts..
if it were me...
- check the other side for being broke..lift and seperate..
- personally if i did it again i would go USA made from a sponsor vendor correct to your car..
- i found one out of 2 USA made at NAPA
- pay attention to some of the advice i got on bolt holes too..
check transmission mount as well while there...

while there.. plug wire time? shields ?

good luck!

Heh! Yep, the pics on your thread look just like what I'm seeing now (except I see orange where you see blue ).

I do want to go w/USA and rubber. I'd like to pick up locally if possible.

This all started when I sent my water pump out for a rebuild, and then noticed a crack in the PS pump adjusting brace. Should've been a simple water pump R&R; but noooo...

Unless you have a NCRS restored car......I will only recommend the Moroso solid mounts. There are a few reasons....they are forever, they do not make the car vibrate any more than stock.....and the biggest for me, they are much simpler and much smaller overall. The stock mounts are an absolute pain to remove with the engine in.....you just can't get to the bolts on the block becasue they are buried without some patience and creativity. I broke the stock motor mount in my 406 powered 72' with the first powershift......I was able to get the mounts out after some swearing, but the solid pieces went in like they were supposed to be there.
It opens up room around the back of the P/S pump too if you ever had to mess with it...you know that is a lot of fun. On the other side it opens up room around the fuel pump and combines with a mini-starter makes a huge difference in being able to work around this area.......
I will never put a stock block mount in anything ever again.
Look at the pics and tell me which one you want to install.....

Well, I had rubber on my mind, but those are excellent points. Thx!

Looks like the Moroso # is 62530. I'm thinking I may go that way.

No contest. I found the Moroso about 20 minutes away. Leaving now. Full speed ahead.

Guys,

Thanks for the tips and recommendations. I picked up the set of solid Moroso mounts, and (easily) installed the driver's side, along with the new PS pump adjustment brace that mounts to the forward top motor mount hole. I'll get to the pass side mount in short order.

I'm taking a mental health break after struggling (unsuccessfully!) to get the PS pump back into place. Starting a new thread on that because of a couple of questions.

Thx again!

Just make sure you use a poly or rubber tranny mount.

Thanks, but I'm not doing anything to the trans mount right away. If/when I do replace it, I'll use a stock rubber model.

Thx for your info on that!

We have run
1- rubber- stock GM or equivalent
2-Poly- well known red ones
3-Solid

Rubber worked for everyday driving and lasted a long time- these were the original GM or USA made ones
Poly- sheared under hard use
Solid- good but when removed a few weeks ago found a crack in the LH side, the load side. Replaced with new solids

So they will all break - depends on usage just how long

I felt more motivated this morning than I had expected, so I re-installed the PS pump, which sadly involved removing the cradle bracket that I'd already attached to the block. Ya see, I learned that that cradle bracket gets attached to the pump BEFORE that assembly gets mounted to the block.

And with that out of the way, I went to replace the pass side motor mount with the second of the two solid Moroso mounts that I bought yesterday. And I'm very glad I did so - the pass side mount was broken, too. Both broken mounts were GM service replacements that I installed in 1988. The car has been driven about 27,000 miles since then; who knows how long the mounts have been broken.

So jebbysan, thanks for the solid mount suggestion. If I had gone with my original inclination I would have bought only the driver's side mount in rubber, and would not have had cause to check the pass side. Since the Moroso's were sold as a pair, that gave me the push to change the pass side as well as the driver's!

Thx again!
Not sure if yours is the same as mine(1975) but I wound up mounting the pump onto the bracket first and then installing bracket to the engine second.

That is so correct! Unfortunately, I didn't know that at first. I first tried it bass-ackwards, mounting both the bracket and the adjusting brace to the block, and then trying to squeeze the pump into place. After struggling and making up new curse words, I asked my wife what should I do, and as always, she had the answer.

And yes, I'm pretty sure your 75 and my 72 are the same. A number of vendor catalogs show the same mounting for all 63-82 small blocks.

It was trial and error (heavy on the error) for me too.
