That's a solid 69 worth repairing, I would pull all the trim, remove the glass than grind/sand all the rust out and see what you have left to work with. Even if you need to replace the windshield frame that is worthy of this car.
Couple of thoughts; you can get an inspection camera from HF and might could get some insight on the back side. And again IF it feels sturdy, think this was originally 1/16" and sheet metal, I would get some of the Eastwood frame spray with the little hose and sprinkler nozzle and soak it on the back side with frame paint.
Thanks for sharing the posts , your 69 looks better than the 68 I am currently working on, LOL's! Good luck and hope it cks out good.
My 69 is a rust free car. Or so they say....That being said the Windshield pillar was rusted out all in one spot 1/2 way up the passenger side. Then the Frame had some pretty good rust pitting on the top only and one of the Rockers on the body had a hole rusted threw. The bottom of the frame at the kick ups is like new. One Seat Belt reinforcement is completely rusted away and the other looks just like it did on the assembly line. Some things just don't make sense. As bad as that Pillar looks on that car I would start looking else ware. I have herd of people cutting off the upper surround and then splicing it back on to access the birdcage to weld in a new windshield piller assembly with out removing the front clip but I have never seen it done.
We are, as they say, testing the waters
Notice it must sell by Thursday or I start pulling it apart
Plus, who in their right mind would answer an ad like that?
I did some more digging around tonight
Pictures to come

not too encouraging I would have to agree. So is the windshield frame totally gone?
As mentioned above, tonight I kept looking at the windshield surround by the A pillar and below
This is the worst hole at the base
Below the windshield where the fiberglass fender ends there is a flap that can be seen through the door jamb
It was filled with what I call dum dum, kind of a sticky clay.
I dug some out to see what the metal underneath looked like
It looked pretty solid and you could still see some green
I couldn't do this on the other side because the flap was folded inward when they did the fender repairs
But speaking of green, I pulled the driver side kick panel to see the bottom of the birdcage
And I fired up the engine and tested the headlights
I think the windshield glass needs to come out to see more. BTW, I have never been able to remove a C3 windshield without breaking it so if you are able to do it successfully, please let me know how. I know others are successful but not me,....yet, LOL's!
Discovery phase is always a roller coaster, me thinks.
I will have to say that is the most honest Craigslist add I have ever seen for a Corvette. Little surprised it has both a need to be gone and a firm on price.
It only needs to be gone because otherwise he’s going to fix the damn thing. It’s not that he can’t fix it. He said he wants to do other things instead.
Other than being a little short in the tooth on options and long in the tooth on rust not a bad ride. Bucket of soap and water, get it to start, run and stop and that's a daily driver as-is. Buff that passenger seat out and that's a chick magnet.
I like the car.
I have done this type of work before and would not be afraid to tackle this one from the pics Glenn has shown.
I'm not sure where your entry price was on this one Glenn but at $12.5 with the needed windshield frame repair along with complete paint, interior, suspension, etc. I don't think I could see daylight for a base engine, automatic with no options.
I will be interested to follow along though
Cheers, Greg
I know rebuilding / restoration is not for everyone, but for those of us who enjoy it, the process is very satisfying. Taking something that was destined to die, and bring it back to life, in itself is rewarding. All the work, all the time, and all the money, is all worth it IF you do it for the enjoyment of it.......if all you dream about is driving the car around, or attended show with it.....the process is too long and tedious. IF you are doing it to make money....you are really making a mistake.
I am having a barrel o fun with this car right now.
Let's take a giant step back
As mentioned in post #6
I got this for something nasty to mess with and mod without guilt
If I keep it, the goal is not to restore it
The engine and trans would be modified or changed for higher horsepower and a stick shift
It is not beyond the realm of possibility that it could become a parts car
Indeed parts could be sold off, other parts kept, or giant parts could be traded
Anything and everything is on the table if it is can be done cheaply
As mentioned above, it makes no financial sense trying to restore this to stock.
So who knows where this could go?
