Possible project car - rust issue on windshield surround question
However, I loathe rust and was digging into the usual places looking for it
I found some on the windshield surround, both on the top cross piece
and at the base of the A pilar
The base of the birdcage looks great, but I am concerned about what lay beneath the that A pilar
Is there a way to look at it without pulling the windshield?
I don't want to get in too deep if this windshield rust is a deal breaker
Thoughts?
Thanks

looking at the photos, if your not into a real big job, I'd pass on this one.

driving, without the interior items like carpet, by the end of the summer.
So the 69 project I documented here and the 396 71 I mentioned here have been gone.
The problem with the 63 is that it turned out too nice. It will be a driver but I was wanting something that I could
modify and drive without guilt.
Then this fell into my lap super cheap.
There is a lot to like about this car, but as stated above, it may be best to let it go
I will do some more investigation.
Thanks for the insight

of each project
I usually find something horrid and declare the car is gone the next day
Then the next day I look at it and think, this is a car I wanted to mess with
and mod, I could mod it this way because of what I found the day before
However, tonight was ugly
I pulled the trim from around the windshield frame, both inside and outside
At first the top of the windshield frame didn't look so bad
but then came the sides
My oh my......

I would pull the windshield glass out and see how bad. Rust expands 7 or 8 times original metal thickness so it always looks bad but hopefully you still have some good metal under there.
I have put in weld in patch pieces in a number of C3 windshield frames where only a few holes were present but the remaining windshield frame was still quite sturdy. Obviously if the whole section is bad, then you need a new section.
Does the windshield frame in these areas feel stout when you push on it or pretty weak and flexes?
This Corvette is worth fixing in any event, no doubt.

I love my ‘69 and would fix it if the metal was available.
Glenn, looks like a great side project you can work on and drive while you fix. Well, once you fix the windshield frame anyway.
I pulled off the passenger side a pillar trim that I had pulled back in an above pic
to find this
While it does look bad, it is quite sturdy, as was asked above
So the question becomes, what is happening at the lower outside bird cage below the lower windshield corners?
To repair that would mean pulling the front clip which I am not wanting to do for that reason
I pulled the vacuum operating windshield wiper cover
Nothing unusual there, but obviously the windshield will need to come out
Curious to see what is going on inside I pulled the passenger side dash
As you can see, the inside part of the birdcage is in great shape
So now the question is what is going on behind it?
More to come....
